NBN Fax

Keep your fax connected on the NBN
No disruptions. Guaranteed.

One of the biggest challenges of moving to the NBN is making your analogue devices (like faxes) work. A fax machine is an analogue device designed to work over an analogue network (ie: PSTN). The NBN network is a digital network that needs to talk to IP devices.

The good news is that FaxMate works perfectly with the nbn™, as well as any other type of internet connection – dial-up, ADSL, ISDN, satellite, cable, 4G, 5G, or whatever.

When will you be impacted?

Check your address on the NBN Co website on the NBN roll-out timeframe for your area & disconnection date of your fax line

Fax machine won’t work

Unfortunately due to the digital nature of the NBN, your analogue based fax machines may not be fully compatible or operational.

Fax reliability

You’re not alone if your fax reliability has gone down after getting on the NBN, especially if you are using an adapter to connect your fax machine to the nbn™.

Don’t lose your existing fax number

Check with the NBN co. when the proposed date for disconnecting your phone/fax lines is. Don’t risk losing your fax number and fax service.

We can help get you faxing again

  • Transfer your existing fax number over to FaxMate
  • Get up and running with a temporary fax service
  • Ability to do a temporary divert of existing fax number until transferred

Get NBN ready

The only guaranteed way to reliably send and receive faxes on the nbn™ is to use an online fax service.

Possible workarounds

You can use an adapter to connect your fax to the nbn™, but they’re not exactly known for their reliability.

Phone/fax line disconnection date

Check with the NBN co. when the proposed date for disconnecting your phone/fax lines is. Don’t risk losing your fax number and fax service.

We can help get you faxing again

  • Transfer your existing fax number over to FaxMate
  • Get up and running with a temporary fax service
  • Ability to do a temporary divert of existing fax number until transferred

The NBN & your fax machine don’t always get along

Traditional fax machines don’t work with the nbn™. You can get an adapter that will make it work sometimes, but it will never work all the time. (In practice, it will only ever work about half the time.) And when you rely on fax for your livelihood, you definitely don’t want to be second-guessing it the whole time. Or wasting time double-checking it.

Traditional Fax + NBN

Traditional fax machines send and receives analog signals designed for copper phone lines. Whereas nbn’s fibre optic cables transmit digital signals.

Doesn'twork

Workarounds

An analogue adapter, VoIP gateway or ‘nbn-compatible’ machines are all workarounds. But they all rely on a steady nbn connection to send and receive faxes.

Explore FaxMate

See no difference. Plays nice with all other fax devices.

FaxMate “Talks” to any fax technology

FaxMate still “talks” to traditional fax machines & all other online fax services. No one will ever know the difference.

Send to normal fax machines

FaxMate is 100% backward compatible. You can send to a normal fax machine, no problems at all. Just enter the number and hit send. Exactly like you do with a traditional fax machine, but from your mobile or computer instead. FaxMate converts your digital fax to an analogue fax that traditional fax machines can understand.

Receive from normal fax machines too

People sending to you won’t see any difference at all. To them, it’s just a normal fax sent to a normal number. And because you get to keep your old number if you have one, they won’t even have to learn or write down a new number! FaxMate converts their analogue fax to a digital fax.

Keep your fax number. And none of the nasties.

No Dedicated Fax Line

Keep your existing fax number without needing to maintain a dedicated fax line

No Line Rental Fees

Save over $30 per month without the need to maintain a dedicated fax line

No Busy Signals

Faxing digitally means you’ll never deal with busy signals or lines ever again

Although eFax is all done over the internet (so it works with the nbn™), you still have a normal fax number that people can fax to. In fact, you can keep your old number, if you have one. So there’s no need to change all your stationery or your website. The only thing that changes is how you send and receive the faxes (it’s easier!) and how much you pay (it’s cheaper!). In other words, it’s a win-win!

Why doesn’t my fax machine work with the nbn?

The nbnTM is a digital network. It’s made up of fibre optic cables that transmit digital signals.

Traditional fax machines, on the other hand, are analog. They send and receive analog signals, which can only be transmitted across traditional copper phone lines.

In other words, they’re two entirely different technologies - one old and one new - that are completely incompatible with each other.

Why does online fax work with the nbn(TM) when the workarounds don’t?

Online fax works with the nbn™ because it doesn’t involve any analog signals whatsoever. It’s digital from start to finish, so it’s entirely compatible with the fibre optic cable on the nbn™.

And if the nbn™ goes down, you simply switch to your phone to send and receive faxes. FaxMate works with any device that has an internet connection. It doesn’t just need to be on the nbn.

Got the nbn(TM) but lost your old number?

Some phone services such as fax lines will be permanently disconnected if you do not arrange to switch before the advised disconnection date. If your phone line and fax number has been disconnected, please call our priority line on 1300 626 329 to find out how you can prevent losing your fax number.

What should I do to ensure my fax service is NBN ready?

The only guaranteed way to reliably send and receive faxes on the nbn™ is to use an online fax service (also known as ‘digital fax’).

With the impending disconnection of copper fax services as the NBN roll out progresses, FaxMate can help you retain your fax number, as well as providing immediate costs savings and streamlining your business practices.

FaxMate can seamlessly transfer your existing fax number off the copper telephony network and host it in the cloud. This enables you to access your faxes anywhere you have an internet (or mobile phone) connection. Sending and receive faxes using FaxMate is as simple as using your email account. FaxMate even has an easy to use mobile app which is compatible with both Apple and Android devices.
